SpinLab announces a new partnership with BEW Berliner Energie und Wärme. The company operates the largest district heating network in Western Europe, supplying around one-third of Berlin’s households with heat and hot water.

BEW is wholly owned by the State of Berlin and has more than 140 years of experience in energy supply. Today, the company plays a central role in Berlin’s energy transition. Its objectives are clear: coal phase-out by 2030 and climate neutrality in heat generation by 2045. To achieve this, BEW is investing in renewable heat sources such as large-scale heat pumps, geothermal energy, biomass, and waste heat recovery, while modernizing infrastructure and driving digitalization. For SpinLab startups, the partnership creates opportunities to collaborate with an established infrastructure provider, gain insights from decades of operational expertise, and test innovations under real conditions.

“With this cooperation, we want to strengthen our innovative capacity, increase our level of digitalization, and, in an inspiring environment, gain new perspectives for our business areas,” says Susanne Huneke, Head of Strategy, Policy & Regulation at BEW.

Through this collaboration, SpinLab and BEW aim to connect startups and experts, co-develop new solutions, and accelerate the transformation of the energy sector.
