Together with the city of Leipzig, SpinLab will participate in the Digital Hub initiative of the German Ministry of Economic Affairs (BMWi). As part of this future concept, Leipzig would be one of a couple of cities in German that are nationally and internationally communicated as Digital Hubs.

As Smart Infrastructure Hub Leipzig would be one of the German hotspots for interesting future technologies in fields as energy, smart city and eHealth. The concept is based upon the current SpinLab activities and plans to further grow SpinLab as important entrepreneurial initiative in Central Germany. Besides the City of Leipzig, also the federal government of Saxony as well as many regional reknown companies support the concept and proposal.

Among many other things, the concept includes a newly created VC fund, additional space for entrepreneurs and a new competence center for energy and smart city research and transfer, that could be established within the next months and years. Also many activities of the City of Leipzig, HHL Graduate School of Management, SpinLab and other regional players will be coordinates to serve as part of the Smart Infrastructure Hub Leipzig.

The BMWi will decide before the summer break.
