Reverion, the Bavarian energy-tech company and graduate of SpinLab’s 14th batch, has secured an impressive €154 million in Series B funding.
This marks another major step in the company’s rapid growth since completing our accelerator program. Shortly after graduating, Reverion raised €8.5 million in 2023. In 2024, the company raised a further €56 million Series A, which was the largest funding round ever raised by a SpinLab startup at the time. Now, the new €154 million investment, led by long-time investor UVC Partners and supported by KfW Capital through the German government’s Deutschlandfonds, will help Reverion expand its manufacturing capacity and meet growing international demand.
What does Reverion do?
Founded as a spin-off from the Technical University of Munich (TUM), Reverion is developing technology designed to provide reliable, zero-carbon electricity when renewable energy sources such as wind and solar cannot produce enough power.
At the core of Reverion’s system is a high-temperature fuel cell. Instead of burning gas to generate electricity, the system converts gas into electricity through an electrochemical process. In customer operations, Reverion has achieved an electrical efficiency of 74.2%, a world record for this type of technology and almost twice the output efficiency of traditional gas generators.
The system can also operate in a carbon-negative way when powered by biomethane. In this process, it separates pure CO₂, which can then be permanently stored or reused. When there is an excess of renewable electricity on the grid, the same system can work in reverse as an electrolyzer, using electricity to produce storable green gases.
Scaling Clean Energy for a Global Future
According to Stephan Herrmann, CEO and Co-Founder of Reverion, the Series B funding will help the company move toward the mass production of its technology.
Reverion currently has seven 500 kW units operating at customer sites and a project pipeline worth more than €1.79 billion in potential revenue. A large share of the new funding will go toward building a new manufacturing facility in Germany. The facility is expected to increase the company’s annual production capacity from 25 MW to 250 MW and create up to 800 new jobs. It will also allow Reverion to scale its technology into the megawatt range for international markets.
Johannes von Borries, Managing Partner at UVC Partners, said that Reverion is outperforming established competitors, including companies with multi-billion-euro valuations. The company’s growth demonstrates that European deep-tech hardware can compete globally and potentially lead the market.
